“We recorded our first two albums at TAPE. Those sessions were very much a formative experience for us, we’d never been in a studio before. We hadn’t really developed fully as musicians by that point but those sessions brought out some playing that was way beyond our capabilities at that time it felt like. This was because of the enthusiasm and encouragement TAPE gave us (and patience). TAPE just had a way of totally ‘getting’ what we were doing and fully invested in the idea with us. It was collaborative. Steve in particular would have all kinds of ideas for sounds for us to try out and different experimental techniques to achieve different sonic textures. Importantly he gave me as a songwriter lots of confidence. He had a way of helping me figure out my ideas and encouraged us to try things out that we would not have had the confidence to try otherwise. If it worked it was amazing, if it didn’t it was funny and we’d move on with the next idea. A safe place to express thoughts and feelings, and I felt truly understood. There is no better example of this than the song ‘Now I know’. I cherish those memories of recording at TAPE as some of the happiest times of my life. Experiences none of us will ever forget, and we feel enormously lucky to have had that jewel on the north Wales coast.”
